A Mom's Take on Dave Asprey's BEYOND Biohacking Conference

What I Learned About Taking Care of Myself (So I Can Take Care of Everyone Else)

By Devon Sayre & Jason Sayre | Macaroni KID Greater NW Houston & Katy July 23, 2026

If you had told me a year ago that I'd be spending a weekend in Austin surrounded by hydrogen water, hyperbaric chambers, and sound baths, I might have laughed. But when the opportunity came up to attend Dave Asprey's BEYOND Biohacking Conference, I said yes, mostly out of curiosity. What I walked away with was something I didn't expect: a real, practical reminder that taking care of myself isn't selfish. It's actually one of the best things I can do for my family.

For anyone unfamiliar, Dave Asprey is the guy behind Bulletproof Coffee and is widely credited as the founder of the biohacking movement. He lost over 100 pounds and turned his own health around years ago, and he's been on a mission to help other people do the same ever since. As a mom just trying to keep up with everyone else's schedule, I appreciated that his message wasn't about chasing perfection. It was about small changes that actually make a difference.

The Sessions That Stood Out

Over the course of the conference, I sat in on sessions covering meditation, breathwork, peptides, clean eating, muscle building, and even how we build stronger personal relationships. One of the highlights was seeing Jay Shetty speak, the bestselling author and purpose coach known for helping people find more meaning in everyday life. Between his session and the others on the agenda, the common thread was clear: small, consistent habits matter more than any quick fix.

As a mom, I don't have hours to dedicate to a wellness routine. What I loved about these sessions is that so much of the advice was practical. Managing stress. Building a healthier relationship with food. Moving my body more. Prioritizing sleep. These aren't things that require a lab or a subscription. They're things I can start doing this week.

The Cool (and Slightly Wild) Technology

Beyond the sessions, the exhibitor floor was its own kind of adventure. I tried hydrogen therapy, learned about PEMF technology, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, and even relaxed during a sound bath between sessions. There were booths dedicated to supplements and peptides, all aimed at helping people feel and function better. Some of it felt a little futuristic for a mom who's used to multitasking through Target runs, but it was fascinating to see how much innovation is happening in the health and longevity space.

Why This Matters for Us as Parents

Here's my biggest takeaway, and the reason I wanted to write this from a mom's point of view instead of just recapping the event. So much of what I learned at Beyond Biohacking isn't really about biohacking gadgets at all. It's about remembering that we matter too.

We spend so much of our energy making sure our kids are fed, rested, and cared for. It's easy to put ourselves last on that list. But this conference reinforced something I already knew deep down: when I take care of my own physical and mental health, I show up better. I'm more patient. I have more energy. I'm a better partner, a better parent, and honestly, a better version of myself.

You don't need a hyperbaric chamber to start. You just need to give yourself permission to prioritize a few small things: a walk, a few deep breaths before you react to the chaos, a meal that actually nourishes you instead of just filling a gap between errands.

If you're a mom who's been putting your own wellness on the back burner, consider this your gentle nudge to start now, even in small ways. You deserve to feel good too, and it might just make you an even better mom in the process.
